Abstract
A necessary element of monitoring is the implementation of feedback, allowing to implement the management process. Feedback information changes the attitude to the monitoring result, and also revises the way of implementing current, intermediate and final goals. The monitoring process should be an organized system of activities related to determining the optimal combination of different forms, types, monitoring methods, taking into account the characteristics of a separate educational and pedagogical situation. Only then can it be a real management factor, the basis for making decisions regarding the preservation or revision of the mode of action or behavior, and at the same time, it becomes directly a decision-making area.

Abstract
The English noun THING is under study in the article. Samples of its using found in an epic high fantasy novel «The Lord of the Rings» written by J. R. R. Tolkien and its translation into Russian made by V. S. Muravyov and A. A. Kistyakovsky. Studying of such kind of words seems especially actual within the comparative studies as it causes substantial problems when translating from English into Russian. The article deals with the characteristics of the word “thing” functioning. The quantitive analysis of the marked word definitions is offered. The spectrum of differences as well as combinative potential of THING gave occasion to rubricate this noun as eurysemic.

Abstract
The relevance of the article is due to the lack of knowledge of the essence of the phenomenon of interlingual paronymy, as well as the lack of precise formulations of its characteristics as a linguistic phenomenon and their practical evidence. The article analyzes the semantic and etymological aspects of interlingual paronyms based on a comparative analysis of the English and German lexemes. The article focuses on a cautious approach to paronymy as part of the translation process.

Abstract
This work is devoted to the investigation of translational transformations used in the process of translation of English media texts into the Russian language. The paper presents the peculiarities of media texts as representatives of the publicistic functional style, which can be difficult to translate from one language into the other. The research shows that in the process of translation of media texts from English into Russian it is necessary to use translational transformations on different language levels in order to achieve equivalence and adequateness of translation. It is resumed that every peculiarity of media texts demands a special approach to the process of its translation and a strict choice of the optimal translational transformation.

Abstract
The article deals with the issue of a mother tongue in second language learning/acquisition. The analysis of its role is conducted on the basis of historical perspective starting from the European Reform Movement in language teaching. Oppo-sing scientific positions are presented: those admitting the role of a mother tongue in second language acquisition and those rejecting its importance and any use of translation exercises in the teaching process. The article refers to various linguistic, psychological and methodological aspects of research relevant to the practice of modern language teaching.

Abstract
This article discusses the literature produced during the siege in Leningrad. Publications that were brought from behind the front line. Literature that was printed, but did not have time to send, because of the German offensive. The importance of the political book in the life of the city's residents and maintaining the high moral and Patriotic spirit of the defenders of the city. A brief analysis is given of what literature was most in demand in the besieged Leningrad in 1941-1942, before the break of the blockade in January 1943.

Abstract
The article is devoted to the problem of perception of advertising and information materials. The analysis of the attitude of student audiences to advertising campaigns is presented. It is proved that in the process of perceiving advertising information, a person evaluates it from the point of view of emotional aesthetic and intellectual preferences. The features of the perception of advertising and information materials by students of SPb UMTE are investigated. It is determined that the formation of a positive, favorable image is influenced by creativity.

Abstract
We consider in this paper the basic theoretical provisions that allow to establish the concept of "calque", to identify ways of distinguishing calque and word-formation result of a particular language. 45 words were selected with the analysis of the Latin dictionary. These words can be considered as calques from Latin to Russian; their classification in terms of structure and semantics was carried out.
