The article describes the relevance and importance of the formation of literate writing. It considers the approaches of different authors to the definition of the concept “orthographic awareness”. It also stresses the importance of development of orthographic abilities on the primary level of learning. It detects the methods used in teaching orthography. The article views the techniques and exercises for developing orthographic abilities on the primary level of learning.
